The lucky staff member in the spotlight this time is none other than our famous Randy Newman.
Randy has worked with the MCLS for 25 years. He is the MCLS Technology and Customer Service Specialist, but he has held many different job titles and responsibilities over the span of his career with us. If you follow us on TikTok, you know he often takes the spotlight there as well. He puts every bit of his personality into whatever role I give him in our TikTok, and he (almost) never complains.
His favorite part about his job is the customer service aspect. Randy is often working at the circulation desk at our Blytheville location and loves interacting with customers. He is well known by regular customers at the Blytheville and Osceola locations. Randy also leads Game Night at the Blytheville Public Library each week and hosts the YA Forever Book Club each month. Both programs have given him opportunities to create friendships with customers.
Melissa, the Keiser branch manager, spoke about Randy. “Randy Newman is a key figure of MCLS and is always ready to help a patron or coworker in need. He’s a wiz at computers and all kinds of games, but most of all, playing his electric guitar. If you don’t know him, stop by and say hey, he just may invite you to his game night or book club.”
I collaborate with Randy often when working on our website or various other projects. He is ready to help anytime he is needed by me or our other coworkers. His willingness to help or assume new responsibilities says a lot about his character. Speaking of his character, he also tries his best to get a laugh out of all of us. Sometimes, he’s successful.
Randy reads every day, and his favorite book is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
A fun fact about Randy is that he co-illustrated a children’s book in college. He also loves 80’s hair metal. He can be described as spontaneous, adventurous, and funny.
If he were to travel to another place or time, he would like to visit the future where we have achieved space travel. His superpower of choice would be invincibility.
Be sure to stop by the Blytheville Public Library to visit Randy! Check our Staff Spotlight section to read about other staff members who have been in the spotlight.
