With Thanksgiving being less than a week away, we are anticipating the upcoming holiday season. This time of year, apart from the cold weather, has always been my favorite. The season is full of celebrating traditions, whether old or new, and spending time with loved ones. With the hopes of adding to this year's excitement, the Mississippi County Library System and the Lights of the Delta have partnered to present the Kid’s Christmas Lights Contest. To participate in the contest, children residing in Mississippi County, ages 5-12, will design a light display to be featured at the Lights of the Delta next year. Submit a hand drawn picture, in bold color, on 8.5 x 11 paper to lightsofthedeltacontest@mclibrary.net or drop off at your local, MCLS library. Please include the name of the child, their age, and what school they attend or if they are homeschooled. Only one submission per child will be allowed. Entries can be turned in until 5pm on December 9, 2022. Two winners will be chosen for their artwork to be turned into a light display for 2023. Their name and age will be on a sign next to their light. Their original artwork will be framed and hung inside Santa’s Workshop. The winners will have the opportunity to turn their display on opening night of 2023. Winners will also be given a free hayride redeemable this season (2022) for their class or 20-25 people of their choice and will receive a Lights of the Delta ornament. All entries will be uploaded into an album on our Facebook page (Mississippi County Library System) where they can be viewed by the public. Once the contest is over, a committee of judges will view the album and will select winners based on creativity and ability for the artwork to be turned into a light display. We are excited to see the outcome of the two displays, and look forward to seeing what each child comes up with. Again, submissions can be turned into your local MCLS location or emailed to lightsofthedeltacontest@mclibrary.net. If you need any further information about the Kid’s Christmas Lights Contest, feel free to send a message to the same email address or call us at 870-762-2431.
