Shelf Talk 49: 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Completer

If you are familiar with our Summer Reading Programs, then you have most likely heard of the software called READsquared. READsquared is used to track the reading and participation that is done during the summer program. Another great feature that is available to users through READsquared is the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a concept that promotes reading at an early age to produce higher reading levels and comprehension through elementary school. Any child who has not yet entered Kindergarten is eligible to participate. Even your newborn because, yes, even they can reap the benefits of being read to! Reading to/with your child benefits not only your child’s intellectual skills but also helps the two of you to bond by taking the time each day to read together. Reading to your baby benefits their language development and makes them more likely to enjoy reading later in life. Your child will also love the rewards that come with reaching a new milestone. We recently have been able to congratulate our very first completer of the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Congratulations to Darby Carter! Darby and her mom, Stephanie, are avid supporters of the MCLS. Darby attends almost all our children’s events and has even donated books to our system. We are always excited to see her come into the library to see what she’s reading next or how much she has completed towards both the 1,000 Books program and our summer reading program. She reached the 500 books milestone in April, and just three months later, on July 29, she has finishing reading 1,000 books. Upon completion of this program, she has received a certificate and will receive a t-shirt. Darby also reached level nine in our summer reading program, which is the highest level possible. We are very proud of the hard work she has put in and cannot help but brag about her. We at the MCLS appreciate everyone who supports and is involved with our programming. We try our best to offer something for everyone, and we love to see our patrons utilizing these services. For more information regarding the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, visit ilovetoread.readsquared.com, or stop by your local library and we can get you set up! If you have any suggestions on programs that you would like to see implemented within our library system, please contact info@mclibrary.net.
