Every Thursday night, the Blytheville Public Library hosts a Game/Activity Night. Each week, a variety of games are played, crafts are shared, and fellowship takes place. Activities vary by age and interests, and we encourage everyone to attend. Game Night activities begin at 6:00 pm and last until the library closes at 8:00 pm.
Catan, Dungeons & Dragons, Smash Bros., PHASE 10, Wingspan, and Uno are just a small portion of the games played. Are you interested but not sure how to play? We can teach you! Adult and teen players usually engage in the more advanced games. In the kid’s section, there are also activity-based games, like hide-and-seek and musical chairs.
Leachville’s library has also been holding a similar weekly event. Fridays are designated as Game Day. PlayStation gaming, card games, and children’s board games are offered and take place from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm. There is potential to expand into more adventurous gaming and programming in the future.
The Crafty Club also meets every Thursday night at the Blytheville Public Library. This class takes place during Game Night. In this interest group, you can learn skills like crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitch. We also encourage you to share any other crafty skills you have with the group. While some materials are provided by the library, others you will have to bring.
Game Night and Crafty Club are both examples of our developing program offerings. The library also holds special workshops throughout the year. On April 9 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, the Manila library will be hosting a Friendship Bracelet-making class. This event is open to all ages. This would be great to bring a friend and make matching bracelets or for you to make a set and gift one to your friend. Our last class was a hit so be sure to join us for this one!
There are a variety of other programs offered by the Mississippi County Library System. These vary by branch, so be sure to stop into your local library to find out how you can be involved. Information regarding upcoming events will also be posted to our social media pages. Be sure to find us on Facebook at Mississippi County Library System and follow our Instagram account @mississippicountylibrarysystem. If you have any ideas for future programming or things you would like to see offered, please contact our Assistant Director, Billie Bowman, at bbowman@mclibrary.net.
